Situation
You don't pay anything into your 3rd pillar.
Consequence
Every year, you miss out on a deduction of up to CHF 7'258 from your taxable income (2026).
Tax planning
Pillar 3a, pension fund buy-ins, lump-sum withdrawals, quasi-resident status: your pension decisions are also tax decisions. We plan them with you.
Why it matters
Situation
You don't pay anything into your 3rd pillar.
Consequence
Every year, you miss out on a deduction of up to CHF 7'258 from your taxable income (2026).
Situation
You are planning to withdraw your 2nd and 3rd pillars in the same year.
Consequence
The amounts are added together to calculate the tax on lump-sum benefits: the bill can be considerably higher.
Situation
You work in Switzerland but live abroad.
Consequence
As you are taxed at source, you may be able to request a subsequent ordinary assessment in order to claim your deductions.
What we optimise
Pay in the maximum amount every year and, since 2026, make up 3a gaps arising from 2025 onwards.
Spread buy-ins over several years to optimise the tax effect, while observing the three-year period before any lump-sum withdrawal.
Several 3a accounts and withdrawals planned over several tax years to limit the effect of progressive tax rates.
Timing of withdrawals, choice between pension and lump sum, place of residence: a strategy to build several years before you retire.
Professional expenses, insurance premiums, childcare costs, donations: nothing should be left out of your tax return.
If at least 90% of your household's worldwide gross income is taxable in Switzerland, a subsequent ordinary assessment (TOU/NOV) is possible.
We prepare your pension certificates with you and work in coordination with your fiduciary (accountant).
Points to watch
Withdrawing all your capital in the same year
Tax on lump-sum benefits is progressive: combining 2nd and 3rd pillar withdrawals in the same year increases the rate applied.
Buying in just before a withdrawal
A pension fund buy-in followed by a lump-sum withdrawal within three years can lead to the tax deduction being reversed.
Missing the TOU/NOV deadline
In Valais, the application for a subsequent ordinary assessment must be submitted by 31 March of the year following the tax year concerned at the latest — and renewed every year by non-residents.
Only one 3a account
A 3a account has to be withdrawn in one go. With several accounts, you can spread your withdrawals over several years.
