Situation
A water leak in your home damages the flat below.
Consequence
Without personal liability insurance, you pay for the repairs to your neighbour's flat yourself. With it, they are covered, minus the deductible.
Home insurance
Household contents, personal liability, theft, water or natural hazard damage: we check that your policy really matches what you own — and the way you live.
Why it matters
Situation
A water leak in your home damages the flat below.
Consequence
Without personal liability insurance, you pay for the repairs to your neighbour's flat yourself. With it, they are covered, minus the deductible.
Situation
Your bike or laptop is stolen while you are away from home.
Consequence
Simple theft away from home is only covered if this option is included in your household contents insurance.
Situation
A fire destroys part of your furniture.
Consequence
If the sum insured is too low, the compensation is reduced in the same proportion: this is known as underinsurance.
What we cover
Your belongings are compensated at the cost of replacing them new, not at their second-hand value.
Fire, lightning, floods, hail, avalanches, landslides: covered by the fire cover of your household contents insurance.
Leaking pipes, backflow, seepage: damage to your belongings is covered.
Burglary at home and, as an option, simple theft of your belongings away from home (bike, bag, laptop).
Windows, glass-ceramic hobs, washbasins: a useful option, especially in newer homes.
Jewellery, watches, musical instruments, works of art: declare them separately so they are insured at their true value.
Damage that you or members of your household cause to third parties, including as a tenant.
Points to watch
Underinsurance
If the sum insured is lower than the actual value of your belongings, the insurer can reduce the compensation in the same proportion (Art. 69 of the Insurance Contract Act, VVG/LCA). An up-to-date inventory avoids this unpleasant surprise.
Forgetting theft away from home
Many policies only cover theft at home. If you carry valuable equipment with you, the “simple theft away from home” option is essential.
Overlapping cover
Personal liability included in several policies, luggage covered twice: we spot the overlaps so that you don't pay twice for the same risk.
A policy that doesn't keep up with your life
Moving house, moving in together, a new baby, buying valuables: your policy needs to be adjusted with every change.
