UVG/LAA & supplementary accident insurance
Accident insurance is compulsory for all employees in Switzerland. We check your statutory cover and supplement it where the Accident Insurance Act (UVG/LAA) stops.
Why it matters
Situation
An employee is injured on a building site.
Consequence
UVG/LAA insurance covers the treatment costs and pays daily allowances of 80% of the insured salary.
Situation
A manager whose salary exceeds the statutory ceiling has a skiing accident.
Consequence
The UVG/LAA only covers salary up to CHF 148'200 a year: beyond that, the loss is not covered without supplementary UVG/LAA insurance.
Situation
A part-time employee is injured in her free time.
Consequence
If she works fewer than 8 hours a week for you, non-occupational accidents are not covered by your UVG/LAA insurance.
What we cover
Occupational accidents and diseases and, from 8 hours of work a week, non-occupational accidents.
Medical care, hospital stays in the general ward, medication and medical aids.
80% of the insured salary, from the third day after the day of the accident.
The portion of salary above CHF 148'200 a year and/or up to 100% of salary.
Semi-private or private ward for your employees, in addition to the general ward.
Additional benefits to protect your employees and their families when the worst happens.
Workplace safety measures that reduce accidents — and, over time, your premiums.
Points to watch
Salaries above the ceiling
Above CHF 148'200 a year, salary is no longer covered by the UVG/LAA: supplementary UVG/LAA insurance avoids a significant loss for your managers.
Part-timers working under 8 hours
They are not covered for non-occupational accidents: they need to know this and cover the risk through their health insurance.
Suva or a private insurer?
Depending on your sector, insurance with Suva is compulsory; otherwise, you choose a private insurer. Check this as soon as the business is set up.
Forgetting the self-employed owner
As a self-employed person, you are not automatically covered by the UVG/LAA: voluntary insurance is possible.
